The Hills are Alive with the Sound of…Salzburg, Austria

Halfway through our trip, we visited the city of Berchtesgaden in Germany, however, we snuck away one afternoon to visit Salzburg which was only a 30 minute drive away. We had enough time to walk by the Salz river and into town. We also walked by the cementery and took a tram up to the Hohensalzburg Castle.

The river’s name is derived from the German word Salz, meaning salt. Until the 19th century, shipping of salt down the Salza was an important part of the local economy.

Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzbug, Austria.
